Combating Irregular Migration in Nigeria.

I was invited by the CAA (Creating Awareness & Alternating mission) to their annual Conference to address the youth at the Lagos State Health Technology College on the topic “combating irregular migration in Nigeria”.

It is crucial to raise awareness and provide guidance to young individuals who may be considering or are at risk of engaging in irregular migration.

Irregular migration poses numerous risks and challenges, including human trafficking, exploitation, physical danger, and legal consequences. It is essential to emphasize the importance of making informed decisions and exploring alternative opportunities within the country.

In my address to the youth, I highlighted the following key points:

1. Education and Skill Development: I Emphasize the significance of education and skill development in creating opportunities for personal and professional growth. I encouraged the young individuals to pursue their ambitions and dreams within Nigeria, utilizing the resources and support available.

2. Economic Empowerment: Highlighting the various economic empowerment programs and initiatives available to young people in Nigeria; which includes entrepreneurship training, access to small business loans, and mentorship programs. I encouraged them to explore entrepreneurial ventures and contribute to the growth of the local economy.

3. Awareness of Risks: Educated them about the risks and dangers associated with irregular migration, such as human trafficking, exploitation, and physical harm. I Provided real-life examples and stories to illustrate the harsh realities faced by those who undertake such journeys.

4. Access to Information: Emphasis on the importance of seeking accurate and reliable information before making any decisions regarding migration. I Encouraged them to consult trusted sources such as government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and community leaders for guidance.

5. Peer Influence: I Highlighted the role of peer influence in decision-making processes. Encourage the young individuals to support and motivate each other in pursuing legal and safe opportunities within Nigeria. Promote positive role models who have succeeded in their endeavors without resorting to irregular migration.

6. Government Support: Talked about government’s commitment to addressing the root causes of irregular migration and creating an enabling environment for youth development. Outline the various initiatives and support systems put in place by the government to encourage youth empowerment and discourage irregular migration.

7.  Countries Border and Immigration Control:  Countries’ border and immigration control systems play a crucial role in managing the movement of people across national borders. These systems are designed to ensure national security, protect public safety, and regulate the entry and stay of foreign nationals.  In the event one is caught going into any country not only are they put in jail for a period of time but eventually put in jai.

In conclusion, addressing the youth on combating irregular migration in Nigeria, i expressed that by providing young individuals with the necessary tools and resources, we can promote a culture of legal and safe opportunities within Nigeria, ensuring youths are well-being and contributing to the overall development of the nation.
