LAGOS URGES PUBLIC SERVANTS TO COME UP WITH INNOVATIVE IDEAS FOR MORE EFFECTIVE SERVICE DELIVERY

Public Servants in Lagos have been urged to come up with innovative ideas that would impact positively on service delivery in the State.

The Director General Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation, Mr. Toba Otusanya gave the charge while addressing participant in the on-going training on Growth Mindset Development Programme organized for Public Servants in the State, by his office at Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC) Magodo.

According to him, the State Government having benchmarked other Smart Cities like Singapore and Dubai realized the need to transform its Public Service in line with best practices, for a more effective service delivery to the Citizens.

He explained that 100 Public Servants who participated in the first batch of the Train-the Trainers Programme were carefully selected from various MDAs having exhibited some traits of growth mindset needed to achieve the objective of the programme.

Emphasizing on the need for all participants to understand various stakeholders peculiar to their environment, the DG encouraged them to adopt a more pro active and effective communication channels to drive home their messages.

The DG while admitting that this new approach being developed by the State is going to be a challenging one as this has to do with cultural change, added that the full support of the executives will be needed to move this initiative forward in the State.

He therefore challenged the participants to be the change they would like to see in their various MDAs such that they would earn the support of their colleagues who would like to emulate the changes seen in them.

On her part, the lead Consultant, Thrive Management Consultancy limited, Mrs Olubunmi Fabamwo while describing mindset as a habitual mental attitude that determines how an individual would interpret and respond to situations, emphasized that the world is changing and so are the recipients of the services rendered by Public Servants.

“Our envisaged Public Service requires Public Servants with a growth mindset who recognize that a person’s skills, intellect and talent can be developed through practice and perseverance”, she said.

She added that to achieve the State Development plan, the need for a critical pool of Public Servants with a growth mindset cannot be over-emphasized.

Participants agreed that in order for them to be Growth Mindset leaders, there is need for them to open up channels of communication, seek problem solvers across MDAs and always think of what they could do and how they would that more effectively.
