LAGOS EMBARKS ON CHANGE CAMPAIGN FOR PUBLIC SERVANTS IN THE STATE

The Lagos State Government has embarked on a change campaign to change/ renew the mindset of Public Servants from a ‘Fixed’ to a ‘Growth’ mindset.

Speaking at the combined Press Briefing with the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Ministry of Establishment and Training, and Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation (OTCI), the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Establishment, Training and Pension, Dr. Akintola Benson-Oke, said the State Government in its desire to run an all inclusive government , and realizing that best practices of yesterday may not be good enough for the products of today, has decided to embark on continuous reforms in the Public Service, part of which is the Advocacy of the Mindset also known as the Change Campaign.

According to him, the State Government in an effort to ensure that the Public Service Performs at its optimal level and delivers exponential value to the Citizens of Lagos , decided to re-orientate the Public Service through an advocacy campaign that addresses the most cognate component of organizational development, the changing and substitution of a ‘Fixed Mindset’ to a ‘Growth mindset’.

While noting that a ‘Fixed Mindset’ assures that one’s character, intelligence, and creative ability are static and cannot change in a meaningful way; while a “growth mindset” thrives on challenge and sees failure not as evidence of unintelligence, but as a heartening springboard for growth, the Honourable Commissioner added that out of these two mindsets which are manifested from a very early age, springs a great deal of one’s behavior.

He therefore encouraged individual officers of the Lagos State Public Service to inculcate a ‘growth mindset’ in order to attain a truly effective, productive and transformational Public Service that would surpass the expectations of all stakeholders.

Contributing, the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan said this Change Campaign is meant to meet the demands of the people of Lagos in terms of efficient and effective service delivery; adding that a ‘fixed mindset’ is a major challenge to governance.

While urging Public Servants to adopt a more progressive attitude towards governance, the Honourable Commissioner added that the campaign is about how Public Servants can adopt a new ideology for a more efficient customer service, and that the State Government would embark on training and communication track to ensure Public Servants develop the right attitude that would make them proffer solutions both to operational and strategic challenges of governance.

Also contributing, the Director General, Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation, Mr. Toba Otusanya said the state government decided to embark on this change campaign to develop a Public Service of the 21st century, with the right skills to challenge the statusquo, and fit into the emerging Smart City status of the state.

He added that the need to empower Public Servants to be smart and think outside the box through training and continuous sensitization cannot be over emphasized in achieving the objective of this campaign.

He urged individuals who have suggestions or ideas that would be used as part of the advocacy to make Public Servants have a new approach to work for the benefit of the Citizens to use the Citizens’Gate online Portal at www. Lagosstatecitizensgate or Citizensgate.lagosstate.gov.ng.for such.

The advocacy campaign is to challenge and encourage all officers of the Lagos State Public Service to embrace a ‘growth mindset’ such that the objective of the campaign would be realized.
