HOS COMMENDS CIPM FOR THE TRANSFORMATION OF HR PRACTICE IN LAGOS.

The Head of Service, Mrs. Folashade Adesoye has commended the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) for the transformation brought into the Human Resource Cadre of the State’s Public Service.

The HOS gave the commendation while receiving representatives of the CIPM, led by the Director General, Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation (OTCI), who paid her a courtesy visit in her Office.

According to her, her interaction with the CIPM dates back to the time she was a Permanent Secretary at the Local Government Establishments, Training and Pensions Office, having worked together with the, PSSDC and OTCI on issues pertaining to HR which the CIPM handled.

While encouraging the CIPM representatives to keep up with the good work of changing the HRM Practice in Nigeria, and Lagos in Particular to meet international standards, the HOS extended her best wishes to them on the forthcoming CIPM Awards, where institutions, including Lagos whose HR Practices have been assessed, are competing for awards.

The Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mrs. Fiyinfoluwa Adenike Ogunbanke, while also appreciating the CIPM for the good practice injected into the Lagos State Human Resource Management Practice, added that the “human component” of the HR is very key and should never be toiled with.

The Director General, Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation (OTCI), Mr. Toba Otusanya while thanking the CIPM for making out time to show support to the new HOS, said the choice of the CIPM as a professional body to take the State’s HR practice to the next level was a step in the right direction.

According to him, when the transformation of the Administration and Human Resource (A&HR) Cadre was conceived by the State, it was considered ideal to work with a professional body known for HR in Nigeria, the CIPM; thereafter, a proper assessment of the HRM of the State was conducted by the Institute which resulted in 158 Public Servants being certified as CIPM-HR Professionals.

However, the State has leveraged on the professional expertise of the CIPM to record a lot of successes, and therefore, is making plans for the phase 2 of the Capacity Building exercise which would entail more Public Servants going through the same process, to become CIPM certified, and bring about the desired change in the Public Service, he added.

“The State intends to collaborate more with the CIPM, as more needs to be done to meet up with International Best Practice”, he said.

While expressing their support for the HOS, and thanking the State Government for allowing the CIPM participate in the transformation Agenda of the State, the CIPM Registrar/CEO, Mrs. Ajibola Ponnle said the CIPM is committed to advancing the course of the HR in the Lagos State Public Service and looks forward to a mutually beneficial collaboration with the State; adding that it is not enough to transform HR Champions, but to also ensure they are doing well.

Contributing, Mrs. Toyin Ojodun, Head Strategy, Advocacy & Stakeholder Relations, while emphasizing on the need to have more Public Servants certified as CIPM Professionals, added that the State’s measure of success is not that HR has been introduced in the State’s Public Service, but how the Citizen’s of Lagos have benefitted from this practice.

Acknowledging the efforts made by the OTCI as pivotal in advancing the HRM in Lagos State, she expressed the need for a regular feedback from the state on how CIPM could support it.

A Community of Practice for HR Practitioners, has been approved by the CIPM for HR Practitioners within Alausa to come together and network, and do projects that would help the State, she added.

An invitation was offered to the HOS on the forthcoming CIPM-HR Best Practice Awards where Lagos State is competing for HR Best Practice and Optimization Awards.
